THE IDEAL PAPER FOR LETTERPRESS

Presenting Lettra, a brand-new paper developed especially for the oldest printing process, letterpress. When Crane & Co. was founded, back in 1801, all of our papers were printed letterpress. So, in a sense, the debut of Lettra brings us full circle.

Letterpress is enjoying a renaissance of popularity and creativity. It is an antidote to e-life, which offers no sense of touch, and to slick, impersonal advertising. Broadsides are the small-poster format historically beloved of typophiles and letterpress printers. The Alphabet 26 broadside is our homage to this letterpress tradition and to Bradbury Thompson’s great typographic experiment.

THE PROOF IS IN THE PRINTING

Lettra is engineered especially for letterpress. It is 100% cotton, using shorter fibers than Crane fine stationery papers. The stock is less compacted, so it feels extra-bulky. Lettra is made slowly, allowing the cotton fibers to weave together. It is soft to the touch, yet strong and stable. It will hold its shape and freshness through multiple press passes.

Lettra cover is 300 gsm (110#). It is available in several sizes of parent sheet, and a special small- count carton. Other weights are available on an inquiry basis.

NEW LETTERPRESS FINISH

Lettra invites touch. It feels mysteriously like fabric, with a soft, supple surface. Lettra is neither calendered nor suface-sized, so it feels a bit “fluffy,” and takes an impression beautifully. From coasters to cosmetic packaging, from menus to mail campaigns – and invitations in between – Lettra delights the eye and intrigues the hand.

TRIO OF CLASSIC SHADES

Lettra is available in three colors. Fluorescent white: crisp and pristine, like a fresh terry-cloth bathrobe. Pearl white: the perfect neutral soft white, similar to whipped cream. Ecru white: even warmer and buttery, close to the color of Champagne.

All three Lettra shades coordinate beautifully with Crane’s extensive selection of envelopes. From the smallest mailable size up to presentation-folder envelopes, with many correspondence sizes in between – for everything you design on Lettra, there is a Crane envelope ready-made for delivering it.

The initial Lettra envelope offering includes Fluorescent White 120 gsm (32#) in A-2, A-6, and A-7 plus two squares (5-1/2” and 7”). Inquire about making-item minimums in other sizes and shades.
